GERREN “BIG HOMIE” EVANS

Born on December 31st in Columbia, South Carolina, Gerren “Big Homie” Evans” is the eldest of four children.  Raised by only his mother, Big Homie knew from an early age that setting an example of success was important for his younger siblings.

Big Homie was always musically inclined and played the cello in his school’s orchestra for a number of years.  He realized that music was his passion and ironically, kept him out of trouble.  After graduating from high school, Big Homie attended Benedict College and was named Mr. School of Honors for his scholastic and academic achievements.  After transferring to Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, the radio and music industry became a career path for him.  He began his radio career as an intern for WHTA “Hot 107.9” in Atlanta, Georgia.  While pursing his degree at Georgia Southern, he became an on-air personality of the morning show at the school’s station, WVGS, 91.9 “The Buzz”.  Under Big Homie’s leadership, the station experienced a substantial growth of listeners and Big Homie was soon promoted to Program Director/Station Manager.  During his tenure, the station received several recognitions for his work with the community and local businesses.

After leaving Georgia Southern, Big Homie began his formal radio career at WHXT “Hot 103.9” in his hometown, once again as an intern, but was soon hired as the weekend on-air personality.  While at Hot 103.9, he was twice nominated by the Southern Entertainment Award (“SEA”) for Most Slept on Radio Personality category.

Big Homie, now in Louisville, Kentucky, at WGZB B96.5, is quickly becoming known as Louisville’s hottest on-air personality for “HomieHookUp”.  His show was rated #1 for the Summer of 2013.  His work with the community and outreach programs for children is proving to be a hook up with success!
